Day 15

sunny 15 °C
View Europe with a bit of Asian twist on Szufan's travel map.

We arrived in the beautiful Ljubljana, Slovenia a little after midday and checked into our hotel. Then the bus dropped us in the old town where we walked around to see some historic sites. It was such a lovely place that we all felt sad we only got half a day for it.
We walked through the central market, triple bridge, Dragon bridge and the Ljubljana Cathedral. As we signed up for a food tour at 2:30pm, we skipped lunch and waited for a nice feast. The food tour guide took us to three different restaurants where we had one dish at each location. Each dish was originated from different part of Slovenia. As Slovenia was under control by several ethic groups in the past and also surrounded by very different countries, it was very diversed in its food and languages. We were told that there were 32 dialects in Slovenia! The food was amazing and for each dish we had there was a glass of wine to accompany it. Woohoo! ?? I won’t go into details of what we had because it was hard to describe them and it’s not something I’m good at but it was YUM ?!
Our food tour concluded around 4:30 pm and some of us went up to Ljubljana Castle for a look. Because the castle was built on a hill, from the viewing tower there we were (apparently according to the guide) able to see a third of Slovenia. The view didn’t disappoint. We have been very lucky with weather so far on our trip, apart from the time in Rome most days were sunny or semi-overcast for perfect sightseeing.
Phil and I left the castle as the sun set and since our bellies were still full from the food tour, we decided to skip dinner. Phil’s tummy has been growing and he is getting a bit worried about the size of it ? We were suggested to take the bus back to our hotel but we decided to walk (we kind of need the exercise to balance the amount of food we have been eating). It was about a 30 minuets walk and half of it was across a park so it was actually quite pleasant.
we enjoyed Slovenia a lot more than Italy and wished that we could spend more time here. However, tomorrow we will move on and head towards Austria. Hopefully it will be as good if not better!
